We’re currently flipping a house from the late 60s. We stripped popcorn ceilings ourselves in the entire house, re-textured every ceiling and wall, replaced all of the trim, and repainted every surface. We painted the ceilings with a roller extension- it was by far my least favorite part of renovations so far- so much easier if you do it before flooring is in though! I can’t wait to see more posts on the house! Such a neat project! Beth February 25, 2015

SAN JOSE — After he graduated high school, Shawn Park could’ve pursued any career he wanted, but he ultimately chose to follow in his father’s footsteps. “My dad, Tony, has been painting in the Bay Area for about 20 years, and after high school, I started working for him full-time,” he says. “I’ve always found the trade to be pretty interesting, and I enjoy meeting different people every day. Plus, the hands-on training I’ve received from my dad is something I couldn’t get by going to school or doing an internship. Overall, I’ve found that learning a trade is difficult but also very rewarding.”
Decide what style you are going for. Rustic might mean more warm tones, whereas modern might include more neutral or cool colors. Choosing a style will help narrow down the range of colors or a specific palette that will convey the look you want. Are there features, tapestries or fixtures in the space that would only match certain colors?
In order for your business to be as profitable as possible, your commercial property must be kept well maintained. If your exterior paint coat is peeling or unsightly, prospective clients and customers may be discouraged from patronizing your business. If your property's interior is uninviting and unprofessional, the same thing can occur.

A BIG shout-out to Josh Douglas of A Painter's Touch. He just finished painting the exterior of my house, and I am so pleased. He is neat, thorough, very fair in his pricing, and HONEST.

Because of my lack of experience, I made only about $13 per hour. However, I paid attention to invoicing and other aspects of the business on my occasional contract jobs, so I could probably start a painting business myself if I wanted to. This leads us to our next advantage . . .
Another great tutorial. You guys really put out some great and helpful posts. I was especially happy to see that you kept the popcorn ceiling! I feel like there is so much pressure to get rid of your popcorn ceiling if you have it, but it is so expensive especially if you have asbestos. It is really such a minor thing I don’t think it should get as much flak as it does. Besides, I am convinced if I wait long enough, the popcorn ceilings will make a comeback;)
Today, 30 years after founding Stanford Painting, Inc., Jay talks about his two favorite parts of his job. “One is our company’s family atmosphere—we have a very close-knit team, and everyone knows whenever there’s a wedding or a new baby. The other is interacting with our customers. Working in people’s homes is a great way to get rooted in your community, so I really enjoy making connections and building relationships.”
Believe it or not, there is more that goes into house painting than putting paint on a wall. There is prep work, clean up, priming and other details that must be addressed, which should be included in your initial quote. Before you sign on the dotted line with a painting contractor, you should get a detailed quote that lists all the steps being taken and how much each service will cost, including: Power washing Caulking, sanding and priming Wood or stucco repair (professional contractors will know what needs to be done without you telling them) Details of products and application methods (great contractors know the right products for every job) Touch-ups and cleanup Is the quote printed on company letterhead? Does the sheet show the contractor’s license number? Does he use a local landline phone number (be wary if only a cell phone number is listed)? Tax ID number? Work guarantee and relevant product warranties?
Another way that homeowners can calculate the cost of house painting is by the average cost per hour or per day. Professional painters have rates that vary between around $35 and $45 per hour for the average home; this price per hour does not include the cost for paint and materials, however, which will need to be added into the total cost. The average cost per hour will also vary depending on the type of painting that needs to be done; exterior painting, for instance, costs more than interior painting on average.
