“Don’t trust impressions and make decisions based on in-store color swatches,” Kara advised. “There are many factors that affect your final result. Make sure you take interior lighting into full consideration. Testing your paint is mandatory. Swatches never reflect the actual color of the finished paint job.”

Originally from Israel, Ilan came to the United States in 1990 to attend college in New Jersey. “My plan was to return home and run my father’s business after graduating, but as it turned out, I fell in love with this country and never went back.” After migrating to the Bay Area for what was to be a brief stint in the tech field, Ilan settled in Sunnyvale, where he now lives with his wife, Rinat, and their five children. When asked his favorite part about living in the Bay Area, he expresses his appreciation of the diverse local landscape. “I like being outdoors, and there are lots of opportunities for that here. To be frank, if that was the case you probably wouldn’t be reading this article. With this in mind, let’s dive into the cost of painting supplies, equipment, and your time.

Born in Argentina to native Italian parents, Daniel came to the United States as a teenager—a transition he describes as hard but manageable. “It wasn’t easy for me, but it was even tougher for my parents, who had difficulty adapting to the language.” Today, as a resident of San Mateo (where he lives with his wife, Angie), Daniel expresses his appreciation for the people of the Bay Area. “I love the people, the way they think and the fact that they come from all different parts of the world. The sheer diversity is pretty extraordinary, especially in San Francisco. It’s not something you see in most other places.”

Feared Question #9 – “Are Reference Included With Your Proposal? How Do You Put Together Your Reference List?”
The ceilings are all covered in popcorn finish. We really didn’t want to keep the texture at all, but decided to forgo removing it to save money since it’s mainly an aesthetic preference anyway. But we wanted to at least get the ceiling back to looking white. Previous residents must have been smokers, as the ceiling in the living and dining room had taken on a gross yellow patina. Although popcorn with butter is delicious, you don’t want your ceiling to look like buttered popcorn. There were some unsightly water stains as well. We initially just tried painting over the stains with KILZ primer (we actually just tested one spot to experiment.) The water based primer didn’t have a chance against the stain, and within minutes it was seeping through the (several) coats of primer.
